Some internet language things I really like:

  • Phrases like “that’s certainly a thing”, “it’s so shaped”, or “one of the most animals” (is there a name for this?)

  • when people write with little to no punctuation like they are just so done

  • More specifically, asking questions without punctuation i.e. ‘what’ or ‘why’. It’s like, you want to know but also you are resigned to the answer?

  • When people capitalise The Thing for emphasis - particularly if they add a trademark symbol to really drive The Point™ home

  • How we use both bold and italic text for emphasis, but they convey it in different ways and I can’t quite explain how

  • Responding to things exclusively with punctuation, because sometimes words fail you and all you can say is !!!

getting stuck in the mindless phone scroll

madmadamemimble

Fun (or not so fun) fact: This is called Executive Dysfunction. It’s a common neurocognitive deficit/behavioral symptom of ADHD and Austism.

People who suffer from it can enter states of “paralysis” where they are completely aware of a task they want/need to complete and capable of doing said task, but are rooted in place and unable to begin. It’s often mistaken for laziness and causes a lot of anxiety in the affected, making them question their self-worth and ability to succeed.

Phones are a big contributor, but not at all the culprit. Speaking from experience: I have stood in the middle of the kitchen for entire hours, crying because I couldn’t stop staring into the middle-distance and wash the 10 or so dishes that were in the sink.

So…if anyone was wondering, now you know.

My knowledge of New York only comes from tmnt

Can someone tell me if they really do have big ass sewers cuz... Why

madmadamemimble

They do! A lot of these spacious sewer systems are no longer in use or are repurposed as access tunnels, but a lot of them are abandoned. The structure of them is relatively sound because their integrity comes from the force of pressure of the ground around them.

One thing to note tho, these places are often inhabited.
